Work is underway to establish a new youth club for youngsters in Cottingham, Middleton and East Carlton in a project that has been spearheaded by Cottingham Parish Councillor Irene Beadsworth with support from Corby Borough Council and the Northamptonshire Association of Youth Clubs.

The children at Cottingham school responded to a survey which showed there is a clear demand for a youth club. An open day held at the school also proved to be very popular.

Three local parents with nine children between them have now put themselves forward as officers for the club and the club is starting to plan its first event which will hopefully take place during the summer holidays.

Jake Raj (Chairman), Nicola Tyldesley (Treasurer) and David Swallow (Club Secretary) have a keen interest in making the club a success and are happy to discuss ideas or answer any questions. And, as no youth club is complete without children, they'd also like to ask for your help in attracting support from children in the villages!

The club is aimed at 7 to 12 year olds and the organisers need to get a rough idea of how many children would be interested in attending and what they would like to do. Because of health and safety guidelines, the club also needs to recruit people willing to help. Although this may seem like a big commitment, if there is a large enough team of helpers a rota can be developed which is not too onerous!

Your feedback would be appreciated on the following:

. -  Do you know any children (ages 7-11) who would be interested in coming along? If so, how many?

  -  What activities, indoors or out, would they like to do at the club?

. -  Which day/time of day is best?

  - Would you be willing to help? No commitment required at the moment!

Your feedback, to David Swallow on 01536 771796 or via email david.swallow4@virgin.net would be gratefully received.
