Youth facilities/playground

·         I really feel for the youth having nowhere to play/hang out, but the school is not the place. The damage is incredible and the repairs cost the school dearly taking up school finds meant for the 4-11 year olds. We need a solution but youth have to understand why school is a no go area

·         Where is the £20,000 for the young people/children from the Glover Court development? It is meant for play equipment. We need to be consulted. The existing playground needs upgrading badly but provides nothing for the youth. What about these ‘pods’ – bus shelter type huts – indestructible but weatherproof and warm – somewhere to be. Also, the playground should be maintained by the borough council – could somebody be responsible for contacting them about the playground as the repairs maybe aren’t our responsibility and so the monies then would go further for the youth. Do we need to make sure we don’t lose the £20,000 to the borough council’s pot?!!

·         What about the money from the Fairclough development? Wasn’t that for playgrounds?

·         Playground is inadequate. Other villages, eg Wilbarston enjoy twice as much – ours is very limited. Need another bench, swings, more fencing, proper flooring – in one piece!

·         Bigger and better play areas – cater for older children as well as toddlers

·         More play areas for children. It would be nice off Mill Hill area for kids at the top of the village

·         More things for the next generation eg 15-21 etc.  If we had a good hall, we could use it to organise our own entertainment eg. clubs etc.

·         Give the kids more responsibility eg for BMX track. They have to stop their peers leaving bottles etc. If they help us we will help them.

·         More support for Youth Club – adults to help and children to come. And more kids from Middleton

·         What can be done to make the summers more fun? BMX track does not appeal to everyone (age 16)

·         In the old days the Reading Room was used by young people. There is no equivalent now – warm, cosy and indoors – and not a pub.
