Middleton Parish Plan

More than 200 villagers came along to the Our Village, Our Future event on 29 and 30 January to find out more about the Parish Plan for Cottingham and to share their thoughts and aspirations for the future.

Listed below are all the comments from the day. If you would like to respond or add to these comments, please email jane@cottinghamnews.co.uk

Parish Council

  • One Parish Council – Cottingham and Middleton. Then it can move forward in the times, not the deep seated ideas for each village
  • Brill idea – this needs to happen for the best interests of both villages. After all, it is Cottingham cum Middleton
  • Unify Cottingham and Middleton parishes. The two communities’ interests are converging and the pressure for development mounts. A larger community carries more clout. Stop wasting time on petty boundary disputes.
  • I agree and suggest we move forward together (+2 in agreement)
  • Whilst it may be too complex to merge the two parish councils they should work together on common interests and seek synergies in village improvement plans
  • All credit to the Parish Council for their time and interest in our community
  • Thankyou to Cottingham Parish Council for their voluntary work
  • I have no idea of the responsibilities and capabilities of the Parish Council. What do they do? How often are they re-elected and is this a public process? How transparent are they?
  • The Parish Council spends our money – when do they ask us how we would like it spent?
  • Is the profile of the Parish Council representative of the village demography?
  • I do not think the Parish Council is working on my behalf (age 16)
  • Younger people needed on the Parish Council. The average age is about 60 at the moment.
  • If the Parish Council do not respond to the feedback from this event, bypass them and let’s work with the Parish Plan Steering Group.
